Wydad Casablanca coach Rhulani Mokwena has shared his excitement after his side was drawn into a tough group alongside Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The South African tactician, a known admirer of Pep Guardiola’s tactical brilliance, sees the opportunity to face the Manchester City manager as a dream come true. “When you are in a group like this, you cannot lose. You will play against very good teams,” Mokwena said. “Manchester City, of course, we know the quality they have. Playing with the big teams in a big competition is a big dream.”
While acknowledging the immense challenge ahead, Mokwena remains optimistic about Wydad’s chances: “The aim is to sign an honourable participation and win at least one match. This is the bet, and there is no room to talk about anything else. We greatly appreciate the fans’ aspirations and promise to honour them.”
The 2025 Club World Cup, featuring a record 32 teams, will take place in the United States from June 15th to July 13th. Wydad, alongside Al Ahly, Espérance de Tunis, and Mamelodi Sundowns, will represent Africa in the tournament.
