Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has committed his future to Aston Villa by signing a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.
The 31-year-old has extended his stay at Villa Park until 2029, securing his place as the club’s undisputed number one. His previous deal was set to expire in 2027.
Martinez joined Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020 for £17 million and has quickly established himself as a key player for the club. He has made 160 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa, showcasing his consistency and reliability between the posts.
The former Arsenal loanee has earned recognition on the international stage, with the Argentine goalkeeper winning the Copa America and the FIFA World Cup with his national team.
His exceptional goalkeeping skills were on full display during the 2022 World Cup, where he played a crucial role in Argentina’s triumph. Martinez was awarded the Golden Glove for his outstanding performances in the tournament, further cementing his status as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.
Last season, Martinez kept nine clean sheets in 34 Premier League games as Aston Villa secured a fourth-place finish, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Martinez’s new contract extension is a major boost for Aston Villa, who have secured the services of a world-class goalkeeper.
Emiliano Martinez was in goal for Aston Villa as they clinched a 2-1 victory over West Ham United in their opening Premier League fixture on August 18. The team will now face Arsenal, Martinez’s former club, in their next league game on August 24.
