West Ham United are making a bold play to bring France midfielder N’Golo Kante to the Premier League from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.
The 33-year-old, who has been plying his trade in Saudi Arabia since leaving Chelsea last summer, caught the eye of the Hammers with his stellar performances at Euro 2024.
Kante’s standout performances, including being named man of the match in two of France’s games, have further fueled West Ham’s interest.
However, securing Kante will be no easy task. The midfielder is under a lucrative contract at Al-Ittihad with two years remaining.
Given the club’s substantial financial resources, they are under no pressure to sell. Kante would likely need to push for a move if a transfer is to materialise.
West Ham, having already bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Wolves captain Max Kilman for £40 million, are also reportedly close to signing Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson. Nelson, eager for more first-team opportunities, is believed to be valued between £15 million and £20 million.
In addition to Kilman, West Ham have secured Brazil forward Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras in a deal worth over £20 million. With Nelson also potentially joining, the Hammers are actively working to enhance their attacking options.
West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten, hinted at a “busy summer” for the club, reflecting their commitment to strengthening their squad ahead of the new season. The club’s pursuit of Kante underscores their ambitious plans to compete at the highest level.
