Thomas Partey stars as Arsenal secure victory over Wolves in Premier opener

Ghana star Thomas Partey delivered a solid performance, helping Arsenal secure a 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opening match of the 2024/25 English Premier League season.

Partey, who played the full 90 minutes at the Emirates, was instrumental in the Gunners’ midfield, contributing to both defence and attack.

The first goal came midway through the first half when Germany international Kai Havertz rose high to head in a cross from Bukayo Saka.

Partey was also involved in the build-up to Arsenal’s second goal. His quick free-kick initiated a play that eventually led to Havertz assisting Saka, who calmly slotted the ball home, sealing the victory for Mikel Arteta’s side.

With Arsenal aiming to end a 21-year title drought, Arteta will be hoping that Partey remains fit throughout the season.

The Ghanaian midfielder, who struggled with injuries last season, is determined to maintain his form and fitness as Arsenal contend for the Premier League title.

Partey is also set to play a key role for the Black Stars in their upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger in September. Despite persistent transfer rumors, the former Atletico Madrid star appears focused on continuing his journey with the Gunners.
