Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka was the star of the show as the Gunners secured a convincing 5-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Arsenal’s early goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz set the tone for the match. Subsequently, Gabriel Magalhães added a third before halftime, giving the Gunners a comfortable lead. However, Gonçalo Inácio pulled one back for Sporting early in the second half. Nevertheless, Saka converted a penalty to restore the three-goal advantage. Finally, substitute Leandro Trossard completed the scoring with a late goal to make it 5-1.
After the match, Saka expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “Sporting haven’t lost here in a very long time (13 months), we knew it would be a big challenge. But we believed we could go out there and have a good performance and we did that.”
He added, “We realised how good they are and that we had to rise to the challenge. I am proud of all the boys, we will be a team that goes from strength to strength and keeps improving.”
Saka’s impressive display further solidified his status as one of the Premier League’s most talented young players. With six goals and nine assists across all competitions this season, he has been instrumental in Arsenal’s success.
Arsenal are now seventh in the Champions League table with 10 points from five matches. Their next fixture is a Premier League clash against West Ham on November 30.
