Spain just won Euro 2024, and their midfielder Rodri is making some noise about the Ballon d’Or. The Manchester City player thinks it’s high time a Spaniard took home the award for best player in the world.
Rodri said in a post-game interview, “Spanish football deserves a Ballon d’Or winner; Spain deserves to win a Ballon d’Or.” When asked if he thought he should be the one to take the award home, he humbly replied, “I’m going to be honest, I would like for a Spaniard to win it, I don’t care who. It would be great.”
It’s been over 60 years since a Spanish player won the Ballon d’Or. The last one was Luis Suarez in 1960, despite Spain’s “golden generation” that won the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 Euros.
Spain’s manager, Luis de la Fuente, agrees with Rodri. He thinks Rodri is the best player in the world and should win the Ballon d’Or.
What do you think? Should Rodri or another Spanish player win the Ballon d’Or?
