Former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino has announced his new role as a pastor at an evangelical church he founded in his hometown of Maceio, Brazil.
The consecration ceremony took place on Sunday, June 30, marking a significant personal milestone for the ex-Brazil star. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Firmino and his wife Larissa described the occasion as “memorable and unforgettable.”
“From our encounter with Christ, a longing burns in our hearts: that people may know this love that has reached us. Now we have another yearning and responsibility: to be pastors after God’s own heart and who cooperate with the Kingdom,” the couple shared.
Firmino’s spiritual journey has been public and profound. In 2020, he was baptized in a swimming pool at the house of his former Liverpool teammate Alisson. The forward frequently shares religious messages and snapshots of himself preaching on his social media.
In 2023, Roberto Firmino joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, where he has since made 34 appearances and scored nine goals.
Firmino, known for his significant contributions to Liverpool, played for the Reds for eight years, forming an iconic attacking trio with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. During his time at Anfield, he won the Premier League, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and the 2021-22 Champions League. For Brazil, he earned 55 caps and holds the record as the highest-scoring Brazilian in the Premier League with 82 goals.
