President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed Dodzie Numekevor from his position as Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), with the decision taking immediate effect.
Sources at the Jubilee House indicate that the President’s move comes amid growing concerns over the poor state of football pitches across the country.
Numekevor’s removal follows increasing scrutiny of the conditions of sports facilities, particularly in light of recent developments affecting the national team.
Dodzie Numekevor was appointed as the interim Director General of the NSA on February 26, 2024, succeeding Professor Peter Twumasi, who had served for six years.
However, the state of Ghana’s sports infrastructure has been under the spotlight, leading to the President’s decision.

The poor condition of the country’s football facilities has already had significant consequences. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently banned the Black Stars from using the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Ghana’s only approved venue for international games.
Due to the stadium’s failure to meet CAF’s standards, Ghana may be forced to play its upcoming AFCON 2025 home qualifier against Sudan in October at a neutral venue, with potential locations including Morocco, Ivory Coast, or Nigeria.
