Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, while Chelsea winger Cole Palmer has been named the Young Player of the Year.
This marks the first time since the 2009-10 season that English players have claimed both awards, with Wayne Rooney and James Milner last achieving this feat.
Foden, who scored 19 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season, played a crucial role in Manchester City’s historic fourth consecutive league title. At just 23 years old, Foden has now become the youngest player to win six Premier League titles. Reflecting on the accolade, Foden expressed his pride and gratitude, stating, “To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything.”
This is Foden’s first time winning the PFA Player of the Year award, adding to his impressive list of accolades, including the 2023-24 Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year. He was selected over his City teammates Erling Haaland, last year’s winner, and Rodri, as well as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Meanwhile, Cole Palmer, who missed out on the main award, took home the Young Player of the Year prize.
