Ghana coach Otto Addo has acknowledged that his team could have performed better in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola, despite the challenging condition of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch.
The Black Stars hosted Angola on Thursday, aiming for a strong start in their AFCON qualifying campaign but ultimately fell short. A stoppage-time goal from Felicio Joao Milson sealed a 1-0 victory for the visitors, ending Ghana’s 24-year unbeaten run at the stadium.
“I don’t want to plant the loss entirely on the pitch, even though it wasn’t in good condition,” Addo said. “We played on a poor surface against the Central African Republic and still won. We just have to do better.”
Despite the defeat, Addo expressed confidence in the team’s potential to qualify for the tournament, taking positives from their second-half performance.

“The second half makes me very confident we can qualify. The good thing is that it’s all in our hands because we still have to face all the teams in the group.”
The Black Stars will now focus on their next match against Niger, set to be played in Morocco on Monday, as they look to recover from the disappointing result in Kumasi.
