The annual MTN Ashantifest has been launched in Kumasi, the Garden City of Ghana.
Asante Kotoko legends like Opoku Nti, Abdul Razak, Francis Akwafo, and Frimpong Manso graced the event with their presence.
Speaking on behalf of Mr. Adotey Mingle, Ashanti Region GM, Simon Amoah, Commercial Head for the Northern Sector, highlighted that MTN Ashantifest is a decade-long tradition. It’s a way for MTN to connect with the Asanteman community and express gratitude to their valued customers.
Adwoa Baah Obeng, Senior Manager Retail Experience ¬ Northern sector explained that the festival has become a cornerstone of their community engagement efforts. It showcases MTN’s commitment to enriching the lives of those they serve.
“It aims to bring life-enhancing initiatives, such as community improvement projects, sports events, and entertainment. So, in a nutshell, MTN Ashantifest celebrates the community spirit of Asanteman, bringing together neighborhoods across the region. It is a fantastic festival that fosters friendship and showcases the strong bond between MTN and this great region” Adwoa Baah Obeng expressed.
According to the Senior Manager Retail Experience ¬- Northern sector, during the month of June, MTN also embarking on Y’ello Care, an annual staff volunteering program which is held simultaneously in the nineteen (19) countries where MTN operates.
“The theme for this year’s challenge is ‘Education for Rural and Remote Communities’; Learn Today, Lead tomorrow. This employee volunteering initiative demonstrates MTN’s commitment as a caring brand and a partner in executing projects aimed at transforming societies and enriching lives. As part of this initiative, we will be drilling digital boreholes to provide clean water for selected Senior High Schools across all 16 regions of the country. We will also be setting up container-based ICT Centers and Digital Literacy Clinics”.

Adwoa Baah Obeng stated, “To celebrate the festival, we have planned a series of exciting activities:
- MTN Inter-Community Football Gala (MTN Ashantifest Cup): We will be hosting a football tournament to bring communities together.
- SME Month Activations: This month will focus on supporting the business community with various initiatives for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
- Partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers and On-Ground Device Sales: We will offer exclusive deals and promotions on the latest devices through partnerships with top manufacturers.
Additionally, we will have E-Sim activations, Fibre to the Home installations, and other campaigns.
- Support for the Africa Role Model Summit (Youth Engagement): We are committed to fostering youth engagement by supporting this important summit.
- Customer Experiential Centers: We will establish centers to provide personalized assistance and resolve customer issues.”.
Obeng acknowledged past winners of the MTN Ashantifest Cup – Abrepo (2021), Old Tafo (2022), and the current champion, Ejisu. The upcoming football matches will be held from June 13th to July 28th, 2024.
She hoped the festival will ignite the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship, and community interactions.
