Mohamed Salah hints at last year at Liverpool amid contract uncertainty

Mohamed Salah has revealed that he believes the current season will be his last at Liverpool, as he has not yet held discussions with the club regarding a new contract.

The 32-year-old forward made the comments following Liverpool’s impressive 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, where he scored and assisted two goals for Luis Diaz.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Salah stated, “I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time.’ Nobody in the club has talked to me yet about contracts, so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season.’ I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

Salah’s current contract is set to expire next summer, and his remarks have raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike. He signed a three-year deal in July 2022, reportedly making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history at over £350,000 a week. Despite his stellar performance, including his 12th goal in 15 appearances against United, Salah’s future remains uncertain.

Manager Slot impressed with Mohamed Salah

Liverpool manager Arne Slot responded to Salah’s comments, saying, “It’s a lot of ‘if.’ At this moment, he is one of ours, and I am really happy with him being one of ours. I don’t talk about contracts from players, but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”

The Egyptian international’s comments come at a time when speculation is rife about his future, especially after Liverpool rejected a £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad last September.

As Salah continues to shine on the pitch, contributing three goals and three assists in just three Premier League matches this season, fans will be hoping that the club can secure his long-term future.

With the transfer window now closed, Liverpool’s focus will shift to maintaining their strong start to the season, while Salah’s situation will likely remain a topic of discussion as the campaign progresses.
