Manchester United, in collaboration with Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, has established a partnership aimed at ensuring the redevelopment of Old Trafford brings social and economic benefits to the local community.
The club has created a task force, chaired by Lord Sebastian Coe, to explore the feasibility of either renovating the existing stadium or constructing a new one.
The partnership will focus on integrating these plans with broader regeneration projects, including a masterplan for 5,000 new homes in the Trafford Wharfside area and improved transport links to Salford and Manchester city centre.
Lord Coe expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that it would “fully unlock the incredibly exciting potential” of the redevelopment, describing the project as a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity to build a world-class stadium for the region.

The advisory team will assess how the stadium plans align with the wider proposals, while the task force, which includes Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and former Manchester United captain Gary Neville, is expected to decide by the end of 2024 whether to pursue a £2 billion project for a new 100,000-seat stadium.
