Manchester United have significantly bolstered their defensive options by securing the signature of highly-rated French center-back Leny Yoro (18) from Lille OSC. The young defender joins the Red Devils on a five-year contract for a reported fee of around £52 million (€62 million), potentially rising to £59 million (€70 million) with add-ons.
Yoro, a rising star in French football, has impressed scouts across Europe with his composure and technical ability despite his young age. Expressing his delight at joining Manchester United, Yoro stated, “Signing for a club with the status and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honor. From the very first conversations with the club, they’ve outlined a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project and they’ve shown great care for me and my family.”
The arrival of Yoro is seen as a direct replacement for veteran defender Raphael Varane, who recently departed for pastures new. This move signifies Manchester United’s commitment to building a youthful and dynamic backline.
Sporting director Dan Ashworth lauded the young defender, highlighting his immense potential: “Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football. He possesses all the attributes needed to be a world-class center-back. Having such a bright start to his career, we’re excited to support him and help him reach his immense potential.”
Yoro’s arrival injects a dose of youthful exuberance into Manchester United’s backline. His talent and potential, coupled with the guidance of experienced players, could solidify the Red Devils’ defense for years to come.
