Sudan coach James Kwesi Appiah has expressed his hope that both his team and the Black Stars qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This comes after the recent draw for the qualifiers, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, which placed Ghana in Group F alongside Sudan, Angola, and Niger.
Reacting to the draw, the former Black Stars coach emphasised the increasing competitiveness of international football and expressed his desire for both Sudan and Ghana to advance from the group.
“I’ve always said there are no minnows in football now,” Appiah stated in an interview with 3Sports immediately after the draw. “It is really important that any team you meet, you prepare very well and make sure you have the right team to try and win the day. Personally, I also think and hope Ghana and Sudan qualify in the group. For now, I think that is what I can say and I wish both teams the best.”
Under Appiah’s leadership, Sudan aims to replicate their impressive World Cup qualifying form as they strive for their 10th AFCON appearance.

The 1970 champions have a storied history in the tournament but have struggled in recent editions, with their last appearance in the 2021 edition in Cameroon ending in the Group Stage.
On the other hand, having last won the tournament over 40 years ago, The Black Stars are determined to end their long drought and add another trophy to their illustrious history.
