Asante Kotoko SC started their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over long-time rivals Karela United FC at the Naa Sheriga Sports Centre in Nareligu.
This victory not only secured the Porcupine Warriors their first three points of the season but also ended a seven-match winless streak against Karela United.
New signing Albert Amoah made an instant impact, netting the decisive goal in the 37th minute with a powerful strike from inside the box. His shot, which ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar, left Karela goalkeeper Mohammed Ganiu with no chance.
Kotoko’s new recruits, including Congolese defender Samba O’Neil and Sudanese left-back Esmat Abdulhamid, impressed in their debuts, providing defensive stability.

Meanwhile, Guinean goalkeeper Mohamed Camara, standing in for the absent Frederick Asare, delivered a standout performance, making several crucial saves in the second half to preserve the win.
Despite Karela United’s increased pressure after the break, Kotoko’s resilient defense, bolstered by Camara’s brilliance, held firm, ensuring the Porcupine Warriors opened their season with a valuable victory.
Asante Kotoko will look to continue their impressive form with a home against Nsoareman.
