Black Stars forward Joseph Paintsil continued his stellar season by scoring his eighth goal and providing two assists in LA Galaxy’s thrilling 3-2 victory over the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer on Saturday.
Paintsil’s influence was evident from the start, as he assisted Gabriel Pec’s opening goal in the 38th minute to give LA Galaxy the lead.
Just after halftime, Paintsil was instrumental once again, setting up former Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig for a goal in the 48th minute, doubling the Galaxy’s advantage.
Portland Timbers responded with a goal from Jonathan Rodriguez in the 52nd minute, but Paintsil restored LA Galaxy’s two-goal cushion in the 58th minute with his eighth goal of the season.
Although Santiago Moreno scored for the Timbers in the 73rd minute, the Galaxy held firm to secure the victory and another three points.
The 26-year-old’s standout performance earned him the Man of The Match award for the game.
With this win, LA Galaxy remains at the top of the MLS table, accumulating 49 points after 26 matches.
The former Genk player was part of the Black Stars team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where Ghana failed to go beyond the Group stage.
However, due to injury and immigration issues, he has not been able to feature for Ghana after the tournament and may return in September fir the 2025 AFCOn qualifiers given his impressive form.
