Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil has made a comeback to the Black Stars squad ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
This marks his first call-up to the national team since missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic due to immigration procedures related to his move to the United States.
The 28-year-old winger has been in impressive form since joining Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy from Belgian club Genk. In 27 appearances for Galaxy across all competitions, Joseph Paintsil has contributed with 9 goals and 7 assists. His goal-scoring prowess and ability to create chances will be a valuable asset to the Black Stars.
Paintsil’s inclusion in the squad will provide a boost to the team’s attacking options. His versatility and experience will complement the existing attacking talents of players like Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, and Antoine Semenyo.
Ghana will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 before traveling to Niger for their second qualifier on September 9. Paintsil’s return will undoubtedly add another dimension to the team’s efforts to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
