Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that personal accolades are no longer his priority, as the 39-year-old shifts his focus to helping his team at Al-Nassr.
The Portuguese legend, who joined the Saudi Pro League club in January 2023, expressed this sentiment after scoring in Al-Nassr’s 2-1 victory over Qatari side Al-Rayyan in the AFC Champions League.
“It is not important anymore whether I am the best or not, I no longer care about that,” Ronaldo said after the match. “It is good for a player to score goals, but for me, it is better for the team to win.”
With five Ballon d’Or to his name, Ronaldo has been accustomed to breaking records throughout his career but says those achievements no longer drive him. Instead, he is more focused on enjoying the game and contributing to his team’s success.
Ronaldo’s goal against Al-Rayyan, his 904th career strike, carried extra emotional weight. “My goal was important because my father would have been happy with it if he was alive, as today is his birthday,” he said, pointing to the sky after scoring.

In August, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star hinted that he could finish his career at Al-Nassr, stating, “I don’t know if I will retire soon, in two or three years, but probably I will retire here at Al-Nassr.”
Despite helping Al-Nassr win the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, Ronaldo is yet to claim a domestic title or continental silverware with the team. Nonetheless, he remains a key figure for both his club and the Portugal national team, recently scoring his 901st career goal in a Nations League win over Scotland.
