Hearts of Oak coach Aboubakar Ouattara sets relegation escape as primary target for next season

Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has outlined his primary goal for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season ensuring that the Phobians steer clear of any relegation battles.

After narrowly escaping relegation last season with a pivotal win over Bechem United on the final day, Hearts of Oak finished 14th on the league table with 45 points, securing their top-flight status for another year.

At a press conference organized by the club, Ouattara emphasized his commitment to stabilizing the team. “My target is to ensure we don’t battle relegation next season,” Ouattara said.

“The supporters always want us to win, and any big team is expected to compete for trophies. But for now, our main focus is to build a solid team and avoid the relegation zone.”

Ouattara also highlighted the unpredictability of football, noting, “In football, fan agitation is normal. Man proposes, but God disposes. For instance, Wydad Casablanca and ASEC Mimosa, who are typically strong teams, have faced crises and failed to qualify for continental competitions. We need to focus on stability and gradual improvement. I can’t guarantee a trophy next season, but I am committed to building a team that can compete and stay clear of relegation.”

As part of their preparations for the new season, Hearts of Oak are actively engaged in the transfer market to bolster their squad. The team will also face Hearts of Lion in the Ga Homowo Cup next month as part of their preseason build-up.

With a focus on avoiding relegation and gradually improving, the Phobians are gearing up for a more stable and competitive season in the Ghana Premier League.
