GPL: “Hearts are trying to survive”- Aboubakar Ouattara

Head Coach for Accra Hearts of Oak, Aboubakar Ouattara  has revealed that the sole aim of his outfit is to escape the relegation zone and survive in the Ghana Premier League.

The rainbow club beat Nations Football Club 2-0 at the Accra sports stadium on Friday, 31st May 2024. A goal from Kassim Cisse in the 10th minute gave Hearts of Oak the lead before top scorer for the team this season, Hamza Issah doubled the lead five minutes later.

Prior to the game, Hearts of Oak had 38 points and were just two points after the relegation zone. Speaking after the game, Head Coach Aboubakar Ouattara admitted the game was a difficult one.

“The second half was challenging. We encountered some setbacks like injuries. Nations FC put up a good fight, but fortunately, we scored two early goals which worked in our favor. We tried to maintain possession, but it wasn’t easy.”

He added that the target of Hearts of Oak now is to survive in the league.

“They played for them (fans) but first of all, we are trying to survive because when you look at all these people (fans) coming to support us, it’s not easy. The family love their club, and that’s what we are coming together to try to save the family.” He said.

With just two games to end the season, Hearts will play against struggling Accra Great Olympics before wrapping the season up against Bechem United.
