Ghanaian sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Rasheed Saminu have successfully secured their places to compete in the 100m events at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, marking a significant achievement for Ghanaian athletics.
Benjamin Azamati, currently ranked 39th globally in the 100m, earned his spot through consistent and impressive performances on the world stage. In addition to competing in the 100m event, Azamati will also be a crucial member of Ghana’s 4x100m relay team, where his versatility and speed will be on full display.
Rasheed Saminu, ranked 54th in the world for the 100m, also earned his ticket to Paris. He will compete in both the 100m and 200m events, having met the entry standards for the latter. Saminu’s qualification in two sprint categories highlights his remarkable talent and solidifies his presence at the Olympics.
Unfortunately, Joseph Paul Amoah, known for his prowess in the 200m, did not qualify for his trademark event. However, he remains a vital part of the team and is expected to compete in the 4x100m relay, where he has consistently excelled as the anchor leg runner for Ghana.
Ghana’s track and field representation at the Paris Olympics will also feature high jumper Rose Yeboah and a promising quartet in the 4x100m relay, which qualified by outclassing Nigeria in a recent competition in the Bahamas.
These qualifications underscore Ghana’s growing strength and presence in the athletics arena, with the sprinters and relay team set to make a significant impact at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
