Bernard Abbey:Ghana Boxer Aims for Victory in Professional Debut

Ghanaian boxer Bernard Abbey faces a tough challenge on March 15 against Lasha Guruli in Georgia.

Guruli, a 28-year-old Georgian, is 5’10” (178cm) tall and fights out of Rustavi, Georgia.  He is also a Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist with an impressive amateur record of 67 wins and 21 losses, and this fight will mark his professional debut.

For the 20-year-old Abbey, this fight is a significant opportunity.  While acknowledging the difficulty of competing outside Ghana for the first time, he sees it as a crucial step towards his world championship dreams. He is determined to win for Shiatse Promotions, who have invested in his career.

Abbey’s coach and matchmaker, Augustus Dodoo, believes he can break the string of recent losses suffered by Ghanaian boxers fighting abroad.
