The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to engage FIFA in discussions to address concerns surrounding Kwesi Appiah’s simultaneous roles as the coach of Sudan and an Executive Council Member of the GFA during the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Appiah, currently leading Sudan’s national team, will face Ghana in Group F alongside Angola and Niger when qualifiers kick off this September.
In addition to his coaching duties, Appiah is also a member of the Executive Council of the GFA, which oversees the affairs of the Black Stars in the absence of a management committee.
Questions have been raised about potential conflicts of interest arising from Appiah’s dual responsibilities, highlighting governance issues within the association.

“Kwasi Appiah was duly elected into office. It is within his right to accept any job opportunity that comes to him,” said Henry Asante Twum, Communication Director of the Ghana FA, in an interview with JoySports.
“It is an issue of governance, what is right and what is not right. We will consult FIFA governance on the matter and act on what they say.”
Meanwhile, Kwesi Appiah who coached Ghana at the 2014 World Cup has revived the Sudanese team and has been impressive, especially in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
