The Ghanaian swimming team delivered a stellar performance at the 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championship, outperforming their regional rivals and securing a total of 56 medals across both the junior and senior categories. The competition was held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.
Led by Abeiku Jackson, the Ghanaian swimmers clinched 21 gold, 20 silver, and 15 bronze medals. Harry Stacey stood out with multiple medals, including wins in the 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke, and 50m freestyle.
Abeiku Jackson also contributed significantly to Ghana’s success with a gold medal. Other notable swimmers who raised the Ghanaian flag included Nubia Adjei, Titus T. Ankra, Abdellah Mercedes Y, Snowden Ivan, Jada Yankey, and many more.
One of the most promising discoveries of the 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 championship was 12-year-old Jada Yankey. Her exceptional talent and determination showcased her potential as a future star of Ghanaian female swimming. Yankey’s dominance in the medal table, even against older competitors, highlighted her extraordinary abilities.
Mrs Farida Alhassan, Treasurer of the Ghana Swimming Association and an executive member of African Aquatics, expressed optimism about the bright future of Ghanaian swimming. The committee member of World Aquatics highlighted Jada Yankey as a potential Olympic medalist and emphasized the team’s dedication and hard work.
