Ghanaian boxing trainer and GBF Technical Staff member Frank Addo has praised the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) for its commitment to training boxing officials.
He noted the recent training provided to amateur referees and judges on the latest IBA developments as a positive step.
Coach Addo, who works with Wisdom Boxing Club, emphasized the constant evolution of sports, particularly boxing, with new ideas and strategies emerging to enhance safety and competitiveness. He shared his personal introduction to the sport, recalling how his interest began as a child watching boxing on television through the window of Coach Dr. Asare’s home.
The one-star boxing coach expressed his desire to upgrade to a two-star level. He hopes the government will provide support to officials seeking further education, highlighting the financial challenges of traveling and covering accommodation costs for courses held abroad.
“Sports officials need to be up-to-date with modern rules, regulations, and conventions to avoid being left behind and complaining about cheating,” he stated in an interview on Omashi TV.
He believes Ghana possesses a wealth of boxing talent, unlike some other nations, and urged corporate entities to support sports organizations, especially boxing gyms. “Boxing is our number one sport, so the government and companies should invest and help us,” he appealed.
Coach Frank Addo expressed immense gratitude to Head Coach Dr. Ofori Asare for his coaching development since 2009. He also acknowledged the contributions of other staff members at Wisdom Boxing Club to the gym’s growth, which has produced numerous national team boxers, including current standouts like Theo ‘Lopez’ Allotey, Haruna ‘Thunder’ Mohammed, and Nana Clinton.
