GFA races against time to assure CAF on Baba Yara Stadium ahead of Angola clash

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is under immense pressure to meet a crucial deadline set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the readiness of the Baba Yara Stadium for the Black Stars’ upcoming match against Angola on September 5.

Concerns were raised by CAF following the circulation of viral photos and videos showing the pitch in a poor state, sparking widespread worries among fans about the stadium’s preparedness.

GFA Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, revealed that CAF has requested an urgent update on the current condition of the stadium. This update will be pivotal in CAF’s decision on whether the match can proceed at Baba Yara Stadium as planned.

“For over ten days now, this issue has been a topic of discussion, even reaching the CAF level. They’ve written to us, requesting an updated report on the stadium’s condition,” Twum stated in an interview with Peace FM. Twum further explained that despite the concerns, preparations for the match are progressing. The technical team has already submitted its program, and the Black Stars’ coach is expected to announce the squad soon.

“While we’re aware of the concerns, we know that we will play Angola at Baba Yara on September 5. However, due to the viral pictures and videos, CAF is closely monitoring the situation. The current state of the pitch poses health risks, and CAF has given us a specific timeframe to update them. The technical team has submitted their program, and we expect the coach to announce the squad shortly,” he added.

With the deadline fast approaching, the GFA is racing against time to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to bring the Baba Yara Stadium up to the required standard, ensuring that the Black Stars can play their crucial AFCON qualifier on home soil.
