Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member Dr. Randy Abbey has justified the payment of bonuses to members of the Black Stars’ management team when the national team competes in the FIFA World Cup.
Dr. Abbey, speaking before the Parliamentary Select Committee investigating concerns raised by the Save Ghana Football group, argued that success should be rewarded in the same way that responsibility is assigned for failure.
“When the Black Stars fail, the first name mentioned is the GFA president.
“So, if people are held accountable for failure, why should they not be rewarded for success?” he stated.
His comments come in response to public criticism regarding alleged bonuses of $100,000 per member for the Black Stars’ management after the 2022 World Cup, a figure the GFA has since denied. Critics argue that such payouts are excessive, especially when compared to the performance-based bonuses given to players.
Randy Abbey emphasized that recognizing and rewarding those behind the team’s success is a standard practice, insisting that management’s role in World Cup achievements should not be overlooked.
