Coventry City first-team coach George Boateng has been instrumental in the club’s acquisition of Ghanaian striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to media reports.
Boateng, who previously included Thomas-Asante in the Ghana preliminary squad during his stint as assistant coach, played a crucial role in finalizing the deal.
Thomas-Asante, who has signed a four-year contract with Coventry City, joins the Sky Blues from West Bromwich Albion. The transfer fee for the 25-year-old forward, who can also operate as a winger, has not been disclosed.
Thomas-Asante began his professional career with Milton Keynes Dons in 2016, before having loan spells at Sutton United and Oxford City. Following his departure from Milton Keynes in 2019, he had a brief period at Ebsfleet United before moving to Salford City. At Salford, he made 126 appearances, scored 30 goals, and won the EFL Trophy.

His impressive performances at Salford earned him a transfer to West Bromwich Albion, where he excelled as the top goalscorer in both of his seasons at the club, with 9 goals in the 2022/23 season and 12 in the 2023/24 season.
Thomas-Asante has also represented the Ghana national team, making his debut in the 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic in June.
George Boateng, who was part of the assistant coaching team under former Black Stars coach Chris Hughton, leveraged his prior experience with Thomas-Asante to secure the signing.
