Akwasi Serebour Boateng, a former Asante Kotoko management member, has offered a Gh₵10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the murder of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong (Nana Pooley).
“As a former management member of Kotoko, I am offering ₵10,000 to anyone who assists in finding Nana Pooley’s killer,” he announced on Facebook.
The tragic incident occurred on February 2nd during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koramansah Park. Following Kotoko’s 1-0 defeat, violent clashes broke out, resulting in Frimpong’s fatal stabbing.
Police investigations have led to several arrests. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah(owner of Nsoatreman FC) , Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Joseph Kyeremeh were initially arrested, followed by Isaac Ofosu, Augustine Yeboah, Elizabeth Ntiriwaa (Akosua Black Chinese), and Yaw Koshy. Owusu (initially charged with murder), Baffour-Awuah, Kyeremeh, Ntiriwaa, and Yaa Asantewaa (abetment to murder) are on bail. Ofosu, Yeboah, and Koshy (murder) remain in custody
Boateng’s ₵10,000 reward is intended to aid in the arrest and prosecution of those responsible and ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, the one-week commemoration of Nana Pooley was held on February 16.
Boateng was part of Asante Kotoko’s management team in the early 2010s. In 2014, he publicly called for the dissolution of the club’s board and management, including himself, citing a lack of commitment.
Asante Kotoko’s legal team, led by Lawyer Sarfo Duku, announced on February 17 that the police have made a breakthrough in identifying Nana Pooley’s killer. The alleged suspect, known as Barimah, is reported to have stabbed the victim and is currently on the run.
The Ghana Football Association has also launched an independent investigation into the incident, aiming to address the violence that marred the match and resulted in Frimpong’s death. ED
