A swarm of bees invaded the LED advertising board at Stuttgart Stadium just hours before Germany’s Euro 2024 match against Hungary, prompting firefighters to race to the scene to tackle the insects.
The incident caused a buzz of activity as officials worked to ensure the match could proceed without interruption.
According to Bild, firefighters managed to remove the bees after an hour of patient and delicate work, eventually handing them over to an experienced beekeeper.
A fire brigade spokesman explained how the team managed to extract the bees from the stadium. “The digital advertising board had to be partly dismantled to get the bees out,” he said. “A member of the stadium’s technical staff supported us in our efforts. The bees had to move house once again, just like they did in May when VfB Stuttgart played Bayern Munich.”
This incident follows a recent attack by hornets on BBC pundits during the half-time break of England’s win over Serbia.

The unexpected event didn’t dampen the spirits of the German team, who are looking to secure their qualification to the next stage of the competition with a win against Hungary. Germany started their campaign impressively, thrashing Scotland 5-1, while Hungary suffered a 3-1 defeat against Switzerland.
The two sides are set to clash at 4 pm, with Germany aiming to continue their strong form and Hungary hoping to bounce back from their opening loss. The swift and effective response to the bee invasion ensured that the stadium was ready for what promises to be an exciting match.
