Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag continues to enjoy the support of the club’s senior figures as he aims to deliver sustained success at Old Trafford, despite Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat against Liverpool.
The Dutchman, who guided United to an FA Cup triumph last season, finds himself under scrutiny once again following the disappointing result, which leaves the team languishing in 14th place in the Premier League with just three points from their opening three games.
However, both Chief Executive Omar Berrada and Sporting Director Dan Ashworth have publicly backed Ten Hag, even though neither was involved in the post-season review that determined he would remain in charge, regardless of the outcome against Liverpool.
“It was a decision taken prior to both of our arrivals, but we are very happy with it,” Berrada stated. “Erik has our full backing. We think he is the right coach for us.”
Ashworth, who has previously worked with managers already in place at other clubs, emphasized his enjoyment in collaborating with Ten Hag over the past eight weeks.

He stressed his role is to support the manager in every possible way, from operations to recruitment, to allow him to focus on tactical preparations and delivering success for Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag under pressure despite backing
The club’s new football structure, overseen by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, remains committed to Ten Hag despite the recent setback. If United suffer another defeat against Southampton after the international break on September 14, it would mark their worst start since the 1986-87 season, when Ron Atkinson was eventually replaced by Sir Alex Ferguson.
For now, Ten Hag retains the backing of the club’s leadership as he aims to turn things around and guide Manchester United back to the top of the Premier League. The manager and his squad will be looking to bounce back strongly in their upcoming fixtures and prove their commitment to the cause.
