Egyptian Olympic wrestler Mohamed ‘Kesho’ Ibrahim arrested in Paris over sexual assault

Egyptian Olympic wrestler Mohamed ‘Kesho’ Ibrahim has been arrested in Paris on charges of alleged sexual assault. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that the 26-year-old, born in March 1998 in Egypt, was apprehended early on August 9 in front of the Oz cafe.

Kesho, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games, is accused of inappropriately touching another customer at the cafe.

The Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) identified Kesho as the wrestler involved and announced that he will be investigated by the EOC’s ethics committee.

Should the allegations be confirmed, Kesho faces the possibility of a permanent suspension from both domestic and international competitions.

The EOC emphasized that if the charges are substantiated, the culprit could be permanently barred from participating in wrestling events. The wrestler had been eliminated from the men’s 67kg Greco-Roman wrestling competition earlier in the week by Azerbaijan’s Hasrat Jafarov.

The EOC also noted that the wrestler had been granted permission to leave the Egyptian camp to watch the final of his weight category but did not return as expected and turned off his phone.
