Edin Terzic Shocks Borussia Dortmund with Resignation

In a stunning move, Edin Terzic has resigned as manager of Borussia Dortmund less than a month after leading the club to the Champions League final. The German club has accepted Terzic’s resignation, marking an abrupt end to his successful tenure.
Terzic’s decision comes as a major surprise given his recent achievements with Dortmund. He guided them to the German Cup title in 2021 and very nearly captured the biggest prize in European club football this season. Dortmund ultimately fell just short in the Champions League final, losing narrowly to Real Madrid at Wembley.
The 40-year-old manager explained his rationale for departing in an emotional statement.
“Even though it really hurts, I want to inform you that I will leave BVB today. It was a huge honor to lead this club to a DFB Cup final and recently a Champions League final,” Terzic said. “After our final at Wembley, I asked the club bosses for a talk, because I’ve been at BVB for over 10 years now, with five as a coach and two-and-a-half as head coach, and I have the feeling that our new beginning should also come with someone new on the touchline.”
Despite achieving incredible success and having his position firmly secured, Terzic felt the time was right for a change of leadership as Dortmund resets for next season.
“After intense discussions, my feeling hasn’t changed,” he added. “I wish Borussia Dortmund all the best. It’s not goodbye, but till next time.”
Dortmund officials expressed disappointment but accepted Terzic’s decision to step away. The search will now begin for his successor as the club looks to build on the momentum from reaching their first Champions League final in 25 years.
Terzic departs as a legend in Dortmund, having lifted the club to new heights over the past three seasons after joining as a youth coach in 2013. His shock resignation robs the team of continuity but leaves the door open for a potential return someday.
