Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya produced a stunning double save to secure a 0-0 draw against Atalanta in their Champions League opener in Bergamo.
The Spaniard was the hero of the night when he denied Mateo Retegui’s penalty, diving low to his right before making an incredible follow-up save from the striker’s header, scooping the ball off the line.
In a game of few clear chances, Raya’s remarkable two-second display was the highlight in an otherwise uneventful match. Arsenal struggled to create opportunities, going without a single shot from the 18th to the 75th minute.
Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi was also called into action, making a double save from Bukayo Saka’s free-kick and Thomas Partey’s follow-up effort.

Both sides failed to capitalize on their limited chances, with heroics save of David Raya ensuring the Gunners left Italy with a valuable point.
Atalanta dominated possession but couldn’t break through, and Raya’s heroics kept Arsenal in the game. The save has already been compared to some of Arsenal’s greatest goalkeeping moments, notably David Seaman’s iconic stop against Sheffield United in the 2003 FA Cup semi-final.
Despite the lack of attacking threat from both teams, Raya’s performance will boost Arsenal’s morale as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester City.
