Cristiano Ronaldo pens heartfelt message after Portugal’s exit from Euro 2024

After their defeat to France, captain Cristiano Ronaldo has shared an emotional message on social media following Portugal’s elimination from Euro 2024.

The 39-year-old forward expressed his gratitude and pride despite the team’s disappointing exit in the quarterfinals against France.

In his heartfelt message, Ronaldo wrote, “We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For each one of you. For Portugal. We are grateful for everything you have given us and for everything we have achieved so far.”

He continued, “On and off the field, I am sure that this legacy will be honored and will continue to be built. Together.”

Ronaldo’s words come after a challenging tournament for Portugal, where he played every minute of the matches, including the penalty shootout win over Slovenia in the last 16 and the defeat to France on penalties in the quarterfinals.

Pepe, his long-time teammate, also made history by becoming the oldest player in European Championship history at age 41.

Following the loss, Portugal manager Roberto Martinez addressed the futures of both Ronaldo and Pepe, stating that “no individual decisions” had been made yet regarding their international careers. Martinez emphasized that the emotions following the defeat were still too raw to make definitive plans.

Despite the disappointment, Ronaldo’s message underscores his commitment to the national team and his belief in Portugal’s future success. The football icon’s sentiments resonate deeply with fans, who have supported the team throughout the tournament.

Portugal’s Euro 2024 journey may have ended, but the legacy of players like Ronaldo and Pepe will continue to inspire future generations.
