Cristiano Ronaldo made history on Thursday as he became the first player to score 900 career goals, helping Portugal secure a 2-1 victory over Croatia in their opening match of the UEFA Nations League.
The 39-year-old striker found the back of the net in the 34th minute, volleying in from the edge of the six-yard box after a deep cross from Nuno Mendes. This goal extended Ronaldo’s record as Portugal’s all-time leading scorer to 131 goals, which he achieved 20 years after his first international strike.

Earlier in the match, Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot had put Portugal ahead, but he later scored an own goal as Croatia responded before halftime.
Despite the late scare, Portugal held on to secure all three points in their Nations League opener.
The victory leaves Portugal level on points at the top of League A Group 1 with Poland, who defeated Scotland 1-0 on Thursday. Ronaldo’s historic achievement has once again highlighted his enduring quality and impact on the game, cementing his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
