Christian Eriksen’s Mixed Night as Manchester United Held to Draw by Twente in Europa League Opener
Christian Eriksen experienced a night of highs and lows as Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Erik ten Hag’s former club, FC Twente, in their opening Europa League match.
Christian Eriksen opened the scoring for United with a brilliant finish from inside the penalty box in the first half. However, his mistake proved costly when he lost possession near the edge of the United box, allowing Sam Lammers to equalize for Twente with a powerful strike past Andre Onana.
United had several opportunities to regain the lead late on, with Twente goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall producing key saves, including one to deny Joshua Zirkzee and another to stop a near-own-goal by Mees Hilgers.

Bruno Fernandes also came close to scoring, while substitute Kobbie Mainoo had a penalty appeal waved away. Despite dominating possession, United couldn’t find a breakthrough, and the game ended in a frustrating draw.
United will now prepare for a tricky away fixture against Porto on October 3, as they look to bounce back in their European campaign. The draw extended their unbeaten run to four games, but this result marks back-to-back stalemates for Ten Hag’s men.
