Chelsea are advancing negotiations to secure the signing of Spanish forward Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid as part of their ongoing squad reshuffle.
The move comes in the wake of Atletico Madrid’s recent agreement to pay £81.5 million for Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, a deal finalised on Monday.
The funds from Omorodion’s potential sale will aid Atletico in financing the acquisition of the Argentine forward.
Atletico have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Alvarez, who will join the Spanish side for an initial £64.4 million, with an additional £17.1 million in performance-related add-ons.
In a parallel transaction, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is set to transfer to Atletico Madrid for £33 million. Gallagher’s imminent departure will add to the ongoing player movements between the clubs.
Samu Omorodion, 20, joined Atletico Madrid last summer shortly after making his La Liga debut with Granada, where he scored against the Madrid outfit. Atletico subsequently loaned Omorodion to Alaves, where he netted eight goals in 35 appearances last season.

Currently competing at the Olympics, Omorodion has already scored once as Spain progresses to the final.
This summer, Chelsea have invested approximately £115 million in new signings, including midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Omari Kellyman, as well as goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Tosin Adarabioyo and Caleb Wiley, winger Estevao Willian, and striker Marc Guiu.
The club has seen departures as well, with defenders Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall, and forward Omari Hutchinson moving on. Hakim Ziyech, Malang Sarr, and Thiago Silva have left on free transfers, while Gallagher’s imminent move to Spain further reshapes the squad.
The future of Romelu Lukaku remains uncertain, with the Belgian striker having been on loan in Italy for the past two years.
