Chelmsford City manager Robbie Simpson has expressed his delight at securing promising defender Paul Appiah, who recently joined the Clarets after leaving Leicester City.
The 21-year-old English-born Ghanaian is expected to make an immediate impact on the National League South side’s defense.
Simpson praised Appiah’s previous performances, particularly during his loan spell at Maidstone United. “Paul really impressed us last year at Maidstone,”Robbie Simpson stated. “When he was in the team, they were a tough side to score against. We’ve been tracking him ever since.”
Appiah’s standout performance came in Maidstone’s FA Cup match against Ipswich Town, where he was described by Simpson as “heroic.” The defender’s ability to neutralize opposition attacks left a strong impression on the Chelmsford City manager, who also highlighted Appiah’s solid display when Chelmsford faced Maidstone.
Paul Appiah starts his season at Chelmsford in good physical condition after undergoing his pre-season training with the PFA team. Simpson believes that the young defender has the capacity to adapt to the new team’s environment without any difficulties. “Despite a break from competitive matches, I think he’s well-prepared to make an immediate impact,’ he added
With Chelmsford City currently sitting 19th in the National League South table, Simpson is hopeful that Appiah’s arrival will strengthen their defense as they prepare for their upcoming match against Bath City on September 7.
