Charles Sagoe Jr Joins Shrewsbury on Loan as Arsenal Secure Future

Arsenal have committed to the long-term future of young forward Charles Sagoe Jr, signing him to a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Gunners’ academy from Fulham in 2015, has impressed with his performances for the youth team, scoring three goals and providing ten assists in 16 appearances last season.

To accelerate his development, Arsenal have sent Sagoe Jr on loan to English League One side Shrewsbury Town for the upcoming season. The move will provide the young forward with valuable first-team experience.

Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst expressed his enthusiasm for the loan deal, stating  “We have lacked options in those wide areas so I’m delighted to get him in,”

Charles Sagoe Jr made his Arsenal debut in the League Cup in September 2023 but opted against a loan move to Shrewsbury in the second half of last season, instead joining Championship side Swansea City. However, limited opportunities at Swansea mean the forward is eager to make a greater impact at Shrewsbury.

Hurst added ’’He’s a player we have been interested in since January. He opted to go to Swansea and realistically that is understandable for an opportunity in the league higher. It didn’t quite work out but our interest remained and the fact we have been interested for some time has helped our case.”

Born in England, Sagoe Jr has the option to represent both Ghana and England at international level. With his talent and the opportunity to gain first-team football at Shrewsbury, the young forward has a bright future ahead.
