Ibrahim Tanko enjoyed a successful start to his tenure as Medeama SC coach, leading his team to a 1-0 victory over Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League. Tanko, who was appointed last week, expressed his satisfaction with the win, particularly praising his players’ second-half performance.
“We’re delighted with the win,” Tanko commented. “The first half was challenging, perhaps due to it being my first game in charge. However, the team responded strongly in the second half and deserved the three points.”
He acknowledged the pressure going into the match, especially considering Legon Cities’ recent form, but emphasized the importance of motivating his players. Ibrahim Tanko added, “I’m hopeful we’ll perform even better in the next game.”
The former Accra lion coach also explained his tactical decision to play center-back Nurudeen Abdulai as a defensive midfielder. “During my initial training sessions and observations, I saw his potential in that role,” Tanko clarified. “It was a tactical choice for this particular match, and we’ll likely adjust our approach in future games.” The move proved fruitful, as Abdulai scored the decisive goal in the 70th minute.
The win lifts Medeama to 7th place on the league table with 29 points from 19 matches. For Legon Cities, the loss leaves them struggling in 17th place with just 17 points from the same number of games.
Medeama’s next league match against Samatex FC, originally scheduled for Match Week 20, has been postponed. This postponement is a consequence of the tragic violence that occurred at the Kotoko-Nsoatreman match
