Brandon Thomas-Asante proud to win West Brom top scorer award for two successive seasons

Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has expressed his pride and gratitude after being named West Bromwich Albion’s top scorer for the second consecutive season in the English Championship.

Thomas-Asante, who netted 11 goals in 41 league appearances during the 2023/24 season, played a crucial role in helping West Brom reach the Premier League playoffs.

Although the team fell short of promotion to the top flight, Thomas-Asante’s impressive goal tally outstripped that of teammate John Swift, who finished as the second-highest scorer with nine goals.

In an interview with the club’s website, Thomas-Asante reflected on his achievement and expressed his satisfaction with his performance. “I’m really grateful to have won the top goalscorer award last season, and it was really exciting to do so,” he said.

The 25-year-old forward highlighted his progress, noting that he had improved on his goal tally from the previous season. “I’ve managed to do it twice in a row now and I was able to better 2022/23’s tally in 2023/24, which I was pleased about. It’s always encouraging,” he added.

Since joining West Brom from Salford City in August 2022 for £300,000, Thomas-Asante has been a pivotal player for the club. His consistent scoring form over the past two seasons underscores his importance to the team as they gear up for another campaign.

Brandon Thomas-Asante criticised despite top scorer feat

Despite his standout performances, Thomas-Asante faced criticism from some fans who felt he should have scored more goals. However, the striker remains focused on his personal and team goals.

“Nobody sets higher standards for me than myself and I’m always driving myself forward to improve in all aspects of my game,” Thomas-Asante said. “The target for this year will be to build on last season.”

With his continued success, Thomas-Asante’s growing influence as a key player for both West Brom and the Ghana national team is evident. As the club prepares for the new season, the striker’s contributions will be crucial in their pursuit of promotion and success.
