Ghana’s Black Sharks secured a 5-3 victory against Ivory Coast in the first leg of the 2024 Beach Soccer qualifier over the weekend.
The thrilling match, held at the Keta Emancipation Beach Arena, set the stage for an exciting second leg. Spectators were treated to a gripping contest, with end-to-end action throughout.
Alfred Kwame Torsu opened the scoring for Ghana in the 6th minute, followed by a brace from Wise Nyamadi, who showcased exceptional skills in front of goal within five minutes.
Despite their strong start, the Ivorians fought back, scoring just before the first break.
The second half saw the Black Sharks maintaining control but struggling to capitalize on their quick transitions to extend their lead. In the final minutes, Ticor Kini scored twice to give Ghana a commanding lead. However, Ivory Coast responded with a penalty conversion in the 39th minute and a goal from Hans DjedDjed in the 43rd minute, reducing the deficit.

Head Coach Daniel Neequaye Kotey emphasized the importance of focus and discipline, stating, “The job isn’t done yet. We need to replicate our performance next weekend and stay focused as a team.”
With a two-goal advantage heading into the second leg, the Black Sharks are in a favorable position but remain aware of the challenges ahead. The decisive second leg will take place on Saturday, July 27, in Abidjan, with both teams vying for a spot in the 2024 Beach Soccer AFCON in Egypt.
