Ghana defender Daniel Amartey has been included in a list of players that Turkish club Besiktas intends to offload this summer.
This decision comes just a year after Amartey joined the team from Leicester City, who were relegated from the Premier League two seasons ago.
Despite having two years remaining on his contract, the 29-year-old fell out of favor and did not appear in the final matches of the season. Besiktas finished sixth in the league, a substantial 46 points behind champions Galatasaray.
Amartey’s first season with Besiktas saw him receive limited playing time, featuring in only 18 matches.
In a bid to revamp their squad and enhance their competitiveness for titles, Besiktas has decided to sell several players. Amartey is among nine players, including Vincent Aboubakar, Jean Onana, Valentin Rosier, Omar Colley, Javi Montero, Arthur Masuaku, Ersin Destanoğlu, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Ante Rebic, who could leave the club this summer.
Despite the shake-up, Besiktas’ victory in the Turkish Cup ensures they will participate in the Europa League qualifiers next season.
Before his stint at Besiktas, Amartey spent seven years at Leicester City, where he enjoyed significant success, including winning the Premier League and FA Cup, and making over 100 appearances. His career also includes time at Djurgardens IF in Sweden and a successful spell with Copenhagen, where he won the Danish Superliga and Cup.
The upcoming transfer window will be crucial for Daniel Amartey as he looks for a new club to continue his professional career.
