AZ Alkmaar manager Maarten Martens has heaped praise on Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Sadiq after his match-winning performance in the Dutch Eredivisie opener against Almere City.
The former Ghana under-20 star continued his impressive form from the previous season with a blistering start to the new campaign. Just four minutes into the game, Sadiq found the back of the net to give AZ Alkmaar a crucial early lead. The goal proved to be the winner as the match ended 1-0, despite a heated encounter that saw three players sent off.
Martens was full of admiration for Sadiq’s contribution: “A nice reward for Sadiq,” he said, highlighting the winger’s consistent performances since joining the club from Swedish side Hacken last summer. The manager’s comments suggest that the Ghanaian is set to play a pivotal role in AZ Alkmaar’s season.
Ibrahim Sadiq enjoyed a successful debut campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing 5 assists in 30 matches across all competitions. With his early goal against Almere City, he has shown every indication of building on that impressive tally.
AZ Alkmaar will look to maintain their winning start when they face Nec in their next league fixture on August 17.
