Aliou Cisse who led Senegal to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph, will no longer continue as the head coach of the Teranga Lions.
Reports from Senegal suggest that the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has decided not to renew his contract following mounting pressure from the public.
Cisse, a national legend and former captain, has been in charge of Senegal since 2015.
Under his guidance, the Teranga Lions reached the 2019 AFCON final, losing to Algeria, before bouncing back to claim their historic AFCON title in 2022, beating Egypt in a dramatic penalty shootout. He also led Senegal to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Despite his successes, recent performances and a perceived disconnect between the national team and the Senegalese public have led to growing calls for change.

According to sources, the FSF informed Cissé of their decision in a confidential letter.
It is believed that the Senegalese authorities are keen to appoint a local coach as his successor, aiming to rebuild trust between the national team and fans.
Aliou Cisse’s departure marks the end of an era for Senegalese football, but his legacy as the man who brought AFCON glory to Senegal will forever remain in the nation’s history.
