Alexander Djiku sustains injury prior to Mali showdown

Alexander Dijku

Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has picked up an injury and is a doubt for the crucial game against Mali.

The Fernabahce center-back is yet to report to the camp of the Black Stars after being named in coach Otto Addo’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

According to the Ghana Football Association, Djiku is being assessed after picking an arm injury in the closing stages of the Turkish Super Lig.

The 29-year old defender has played for his club side 36 times this season.   He has scored three goals and assisted twice during that period.  For the Black Stars of Ghana, he has 23 caps and had scored on two occasions.

Ghana, currently fourth in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, will be hoping to return to winning winning wats as they are chasing Comoros, Mali, and Madagascar on the log.

Ghana will lock horns with Mali in Bamako on June 6 before hosting the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on June 10.
