Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has expressed his readiness for Fenerbahce’s opening competitive match of the 2024/25 season.
The Turkish giants are set to face Lugano in the second round of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Stockhorn Arena.
Djiku, who has been a key player for Fenerbahce since joining from Strasbourg last summer, emphasized the importance of not underestimating their Swiss opponents. Lugano finished second in their league last season and are known for their attacking prowess.
“Lugano is a really good team. They finished second in their league last season and have shown they can score goals. We are looking forward to the match and are ready for the challenge,” Djiku said at the pre-match press conference.
The versatile defender highlighted Fenerbahce’s extensive preparation, including numerous friendly matches, which have left the team feeling confident for their official season opener. “We have played a lot of friendly matches and feel very ready. Our goal is to start strong and aim to win all our matches, whether at home or away,” Djiku added.
The upcoming game will mark the official debut of manager Jose Mourinho, adding to the anticipation surrounding Fenerbahce’s European campaign this season. Djiku’s consistent performances and adaptability will be crucial as Fenerbahce seeks to progress to the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition.
As Fenerbahce embarks on their UEFA Champions League journey, Djiku’s readiness and experience will be vital in achieving their objectives.
