AFCON 2025: Otto Addo outlines game plan ahead of crucial Sudan qualifier

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has shared his strategy ahead of Ghana’s must-win encounters against Sudan in the AFCON 2025.

The first leg of the doubleheader will take place today, October 10, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return fixture set for October 14 in Libya.

Ghana, currently third in Group F with just one point, is in dire need of a victory to keep their AFCON qualification hopes alive. Addo acknowledged the challenge posed by Sudan, especially with former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah now leading the Sudanese side. However, he remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances.

During a pre-match press conference, Addo emphasised that the key to success lies in defensive discipline and an unwavering sense of passion from his players.

“We have to show passion and also defensive discipline so that we will be ready for everything,” Addo said. “I will address the issues we have because if we don’t, we will always concede a goal. I’m very happy with what I’ve seen from the players, and hopefully, we don’t have that phase again.”

The coach highlighted the importance of a solid defense while pushing for goals, as conceding could heavily undermine their efforts to secure all three points.

A win against Sudan would significantly improve Ghana’s standing in the qualifiers, while a loss could severely hamper their chances of qualifying for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
